I'm not sure I would say that it was an exciting weekend...but it was an eventful one. Jackson decided to catch a stomach bug of some sort, and it kept him and Mom up most of the night for a few nights. There is nothing like walking into your little boy's room at 3 in the morning, having to strip down his bed completely...sheets, mattress cover, blankets...then having to strip him down completely...pajamas, onsie, diaper...lay him on the floor while you remake his bed...wash your hands from all the mess....rinse out all of the different articles of clothing and blankets in the sink...feed him a bottle...rock him for a few minutes...and then finally lay him back in his bed. I can't say that I was the happiest camper when I woke up three nights in a row to this lovely routine, but every time I would lay Jackson back in bed and put his blanket up by his face, he'd grab onto it with both hands, give me a huge smile as if to say thank you, then roll onto his side and start snoring. No matter how much anyone hates waking up in the middle of the night to the smell of a child who has been sick, that one quick smile takes away the feeling of frustrating in a heartbeat. I can't help but love that little boy to death. Morning, night, middle of the night, middle of the night again...I love him more than anything.
He was always so exhausted during the day after our rough nights.
We figured it was just a stomach bug, so we were trying to wait things out. On the third day, things hadn't changed much, so I gave his Pediatrician's office a call. Basically, the nurse said that his little stomach needed time to heal, and in order to do so, he needed to be off formula and solids for 24 hours. I could only give him pedialyte and his other medicine the nurse told me to go pick up. The poor kid thought we were trying to starve him. It was like having a new born again. The juice never fully satisfied him for very long, so he was hungry about every two hours. It was a pretty long night that night. Jackson and I definitely had some bonding time at 1 am, 3:30 am, 6 am, 7:30 am, and again at 9:30 am. He wasn't very happy, but I couldn't blame the little guy. I don't know of anyone that is very pleasant to be around when they haven't had a real meal in 24 hours. The only thing that would make him happy was attacking the Christmas tree. So I was a pushover that morning, and let him go at it.
He still wasn't feeling awesome, and his eyes were a little puffy, but at least he was happy!
When I went to the store on Monday to pick up Jackson's medicine, I bought him a little toy. Anytime I was sick when I was younger, on the way back from the doctor's office, my Mom would always stop at the store and pick up any prescriptions that we needed. While at the store, she would always let us get a treat or toy of some kind to help us kids feel better. Well, I decided I would start that little tradition now with Jackson. I'm determined to have a little soccer player...so I decided to start him off early with his own little soccer ball.
He pushes the ball and then scoots around after it.
After a long day of being sick, he fell asleep with it in his arms before I could even get him into his crib.
Ahhh, what a cute mom you are!! That's really the cure to feeling better (toys, candy, etc..) - it always kinda made me WANT to be sick, because then I'd just get to stay home, watching a movie, and getting toast or whatever else at my every call. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love that you're instilling a love for soccer in him already... YOU WILL LOVE THIS SPORT! Haha. Atta girl.
Ugh isn't that the worst! :( I seriously hate when Daya is sick! You know what makes me sick too? Is that we haven't seen eachother's babies in person! Not cool! I'm glad you have a blog now though so I can see that cutie grow up! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! You are such a good mom. That doesn't sound fun in the middle of the night. But I hope he's better now. And I love your christmas tree! I want one. And I love love love that you have a blog. yay
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you had a blog, I'm glad I found it! I hope your little one gets better soon and you'll have to keep in touch:)
